China launched a new single-dose Covid vaccine in many places! How about this vaccine?

4 min read

Recently, single-dose Covid vaccines have been launched in Shanghai, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Shaoxing, Taizhou, Zhengzhou, Henan, and other places. There are currently three types of new coronavirus vaccines with different technical routes for vaccinating in many areas.

The “single-dose vaccine” is my country’s first adenovirus vector new coronavirus vaccine jointly developed by the team of Academician Chen Wei of the Academy of Military Medical Research of the Academy of Military Sciences Cansino Bio. Only one dose is required throughout the whole process.

How safe is the vaccine?

Regardless of the results of clinical trial research, emergency use research results, and post-marketing surveillance results, the new coronavirus vaccines have been conditionally approved for marketing, including adenovirus vector vaccines and inactivated vaccines, have good safety. Sex. Adverse reactions after vaccination are the same as other vaccines, mainly redness, swelling, induration, pain, etc., at the vaccination site and fever, fatigue, nausea, headache, and muscle aches. Generally, no special treatment is needed. If necessary, contact the vaccination site, and the latter will give disposal instructions.

How effective is the vaccine?

The data of the Phase III clinical trial of the adenovirus vector vaccine showed that 28 days after a single injection of the vaccine, the total protective efficacy of the vaccine against all symptoms was 65.28%, and the protective efficacy against severe illness was 90.07%. By judging from the neutralizing antibody cross-experiment results conducted so far, the vaccine has a protective effect on the mutant strain.

Is the vaccinated population suitable for a single shot vaccine?

This vaccination is suitable for vaccination for people 18 years of age and above.

How is the single-dose vaccine different from the existing inactivated vaccine?

According to the “New Coronavirus Vaccination Technical Guidelines (First Edition)” issued by the National Health Commission on March 29, there are currently three types of vaccines, one is inactivated vaccines (2 doses are required), and the other is recombinant CHO Cell vaccine (3 doses are required), one is adenovirus vector vaccine (1 dose is required). Compared with inactivated vaccines that are widely vaccinated in China, adenovirus vector vaccines have the same vaccination targets and vaccination sites and similar adverse reactions, vaccination contraindications, and vaccination precautions.

How do you choose the three Covid vaccines? Academician Chen Wei said in an interview that if you want to fight less frequently and want to have a faster immune response, you will have a protection rate of more than 60% in 14 days, or you will have to go abroad or perform tasks after a shot. The viral vector COVID-19 vaccine is the first choice.

However, no matter what kind of vaccine it is, it is approved by the national drug regulatory department and has good safety and immune effects. Citizens do not need to deliberately wait for a specific vaccine and do not need to overthink the number of doses. As long as they meet their physical conditions, they can be vaccinated. They can be vaccinated as soon as possible and get immune protection as quickly as possible.

How long can the protective effect of a single shot vaccine last?

The effectiveness data collected so far proves that the protection time of the Cansino adenovirus vector vaccine can reach at least six months. Since the vaccine development time is not long, continuous observation of the persistence of vaccine immunity is still in progress. Previously, the immune durability observation of the Ebola vaccine using the same adenovirus vector technology showed that it still has sufficient protection after two years of vaccination.
Can a single-shot vaccine be given at the same time as other vaccines?

Like other new coronavirus vaccines, it is currently not recommended to vaccinate this vaccine simultaneously as other vaccines. At this stage, it is recommended to use the same vaccine product to complete the vaccination. It is recommended for those who have received 1 dose of inactivated vaccine. It is recommended to use an inactivated vaccine to complete the whole vaccination; for those who have already received 2 doses of inactivated vaccine, it is not recommended to use the adenovirus vaccine for boosting.

The interval between other vaccines and the new coronavirus vaccine should be greater than 14 days. When rabies vaccine, tetanus vaccine, and immune globulin need to be vaccinated due to animal injuries, trauma, etc., the interval between vaccination with the new coronavirus vaccine may not be considered.

What are the contraindications for the single-dose vaccine?

  1. Those who are allergic to the active ingredients of the vaccine, any inactive ingredients, substances used in the production process, or those who have had allergies during previous vaccination of similar vaccines
  2. Those who have experienced severe allergic reactions to vaccines in the past (such as acute allergic reactions, angioedema, dyspnea, etc.);
  3. People who have uncontrolled epilepsy and other neurological severe diseases (such as transverse myelitis, Guillain-Barre syndrome, demyelinating diseases, etc.);
  4. Those who are feverish, or suffer from acute diseases, or the acute onset of chronic diseases, or patients with uncontrolled severe chronic diseases;
  5. Women during pregnancy.

In addition, people with HIV infection, scleroderma, dermatomyositis, and lupus erythematosus, and other autoimmune diseases are not recommended for vaccination at this stage. Diabetic patients and those with a history of convulsions, epilepsy, encephalopathy or mental illness or family history should be used with caution; people with a history of asthma should be used with caution; patients with thrombocytopenia and any coagulation disorders, intramuscular injection of this product may cause bleeding and should be used with caution.
